  Dear friends, I hope you are doing well and taking care of yourself. Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday. I am going to keep the mass schedule, however I am strongly encouraging you to use prudence. We don’t have the human and material resources to ensure that the grounds of our parish are going to be safe. There are going to be layers of ice on the parking lot, the sidewalks, the ramps, and the stairs that take you to the church. If there’s ice in the way from your house to our church, do not get on the road. Instead, remain at home, observing Ash Wednesday as a day of prayer, penance and fasting. Do not expose yourself unnecessarily to dangerous situations. Remember also that Ash Wednesday has never been a holy day of obligation. Attendance at Sunday mass is much more important than attending the yearly Ash Wednesday liturgy. The ashes are an exterior sign of our interior penance.The ashes are not a lucky charm. We are not superstitious. Through the act of receiving ashes we are asking the Lord to give us true contrition for our past sins and we are committing to live new lives according to his commandments.
  Holy Mass will be offered for your intentions, even if I am by myself.
  However, having said all this, if you decide to attend, use all precautions.
